I find it somewhat wierd that the sequel of the #3 most popular anime on MAL has no activity. I'm eager to get some more information if this is going to be a sequel or a re-make (of some sort).

What about you guys? Do you think it's too soon to speculate?

Honestly, I am hoping it's going to be a remake (like with the Hellsing OVA).

Cuz seriously, there are some parts of the manga that I wanna see animated

It is going to be a remake according to official statement

"明日発売の原作最新20巻の帯にて正式発表。BONES流出資料の情報が正しければ、監督は入江泰浩氏?ちなみに、以前頂いた情報通りなら、内容は原作準拠のストーリーでの再アニメ化となり、1年シリーズで、来年4月より毎週日曜17時からMBS・TBS系列にて放送開始予定とのことですが。"

"To be officially announced on the cover of the 20th volume released tomorrow, If the information leaked from BONES is correct, it will be directed by irie yasuhiro; if the prior information is correct, it will be an anime adaptation true to the original, running for 1 year starting april of next year at 5 pm on mbs/tbs."

Oh, I am so pleased about that. ^_^
I didn't understand how they could carry it on from the original anime anyway.

Not much anticipation from me. Liked the 1st season, but didnt enjoy the ending. Pretty anticlimactic.

The premise of the story intrigued me before, but since the disappointment, I really have no interest in FMA even if it is a remake. But if I hear it turns out to be good, then I may watch it.

Dude, you guys. Seriously, try finding your answers before asking your questions ¬¬

It's going to be based on the manga. and while it IS possible that it'll somehow pick up from the anime, it is confirmed that the storyline will be based on the original version. That's all we know and what is absolutely official. It does not indicate a sequel to the Anime First Season.

(and if this gets misunderstood, I mean sequel as in post-movie sequence of events and not manga related)

anyway, here's my reply to the original subject of this topic: FREAKING HELL YES!!!!!! XD I told everybody who at least know in some way or another (which includes my own passive parents) that this series exists and I try to excite as many people as possible with it XD I agree, this club needs more activeness *[ ]* thank you dear person who created this page even though the title wasn't even released yet XDDD !!! THANK YOU!!!!

Anyone knows if season 2 will go from manga chap 1 or from where the first season started to diverge (don't really remember when it started)?

Then it doesn't look like you'll be watching this, because a sequel of the anime would not be Fullmetal ALCHEMIST anymore. And I feel that the anime was basically entirely different from the manga, as in the concept and everything, making a second work impossible to follow it from before it deviated. In the anime, a homunculus turned out to be failed human transmutation, and in the anime, not. That led to having different homunculi in the anime as to the manga.

I seriously don't see why this series would be necessary to be made. I liked the way the series had ended and in my opinion, it can stay that way. I already thought that the movie was unnecessary (just like Endless Waltz for Gundam W) and now second season/remake? It's just for the fanboys >__>

I admit that I haven't read the manga (though a friend of mine always bugs me to do so), but honestly, I don't give a damn. If it's really a remake following the manga, I doubt I'll watch it. FMA does not need a new adaption, there are other series around that do (Tsukihime, for example).

Manga is whole lot better than the anime. The anime story is not plan as good as manga. Those who doesn't bother to watch it will be gonna lost a of fun, interesting and better plot to manga.

It will be better than the first fullmetal alchemist.Saber u shouldn't criticize it the remake since u didn't give a damn to manga. U didn't see the manga at all but u make a statement like a idiot...

Being that FMA is my favorite manga series I cannot wait for this. I've been wanting it ever since I started really getting into the manga and especially after Hellsing got it's remake. The the anime was good, but the manga is just excellent. This confirmation of the series is the best anime news I've heard in a LONG time.

I agree about the manga. I'm reading it now, and I think it's definitely better than the anime. Then again, when the anime was being created there were only 8 volumes out already or something? So I can't really blame them I s'pose.

But, I'm definitely excited to see how this turns out. Because FMA is one of my all time favorites, and the ending to the anime and movie kind of left you hanging. I dunno. It made me want to see what happened next haha.

I really liked the anime, but I have not read the manga before. I still will probably watch the new one if it is a remake.

If it's just like what happened to Hellsing then I am definitely into a remake. I haven't read the manga of Hellsing either but I liked the way they told the story in the OVA better then the series.

I like it when anime stays true to the manga it came from!! They just better keep the same voice actors like Hellsing did (at least that's what they did in the dub; I don't know about the sub)!! I love Vic as Ed!!

I don't see the point of being more excited of seeing something you have already read being adapted page by page for TV. Won't that ruin suspense and lead to you knowing what'll happen next? Big example: One Piece. The commercial segue is always where the chapter ends and the next one begins.

Well, it's not bad for an anime to be faithful, but a few changes don't hurt. Why not somewhere in between the original FMA series (completely diverges) to this new one (which sounds like a page by page adaptation). Still, I'll watch it but if it is a page-by-page remake, I'll probably put more priority into finally reading the manga.

I loved the anime and the manga blows me away. The anime had some great action, but it doesn't actually compare to how brutal and action packed the manga can get. It IS a shonen series after all.

As for the anime being made, they have almost no choice but to completely redo it. Too much changes between the two formats. The identity of the homunculi, Scar is DEAD in the anime and as far as I know he's still a very important part of the story as of my last reading. And in the anime they hardly even touch the subject of the neighboring nations. Ling & that lil' girl with the panda are very good characters that got left out.

I'm looking forward to it despite the risks. It could be a very good adaptation like Hellsing, or crappy like the Orphen sequel. We'll see.

I have not yet read the manga but I thought the anime was totally awesome. But yeah... how exactly would they continue with Ed and Al separate from everyone on the other side of the gate? My only conclusion is that is will be a "parallel universe" and maybe they'll follow the manga. But I hear the anime is quite different from the manga after a certain someone dies? Well, I just hope they don't screw up an amazing series. That's all I ask.

Also why the hell has this already been favorited by 6 people? It didn't even air yet!!

QFT.

I really want to see it done right this time... Especially Riza flashbacks... that's gonna be awesome animated. And in case manga doesn't finish (and it probably won't) by the end of next year, I hope they'll leave anime ending open, so we can get another season with proper ending instead making up new ending like in first adaptation.

[apologies if I repeat anything already said, but I didn't have time to read everything in the thread ^^ gomen!]

I'm surprised they're doing a remake, from the point of view that surely they aren't going to make that much money out of it?? Personally if I could have my way I would have yelled STOP!!! when they caught up with the manga and told them to WAIT, put the series on hold until they had enough manga material to continue. Making up the end was just silly and, I agree, spoilt the feel of the anime. It started out being very moving, clever and full of twists and turns that the second half lacked.

But a full remake? I'm not sure. To be honest I'd rather they went from the point of deviation, since I can't really be bothered to watch the first 20 odd episodes AGAIN, especially when the originals were such good quality (voice acting, etc.) - actually I'd be interested to know if the voice actors will be the same, Romi Paku did such an awesome job!

~ oh, and I agree. No more ridiculous pairings!!! Rose and Ed did NOT work, if you're going to pair anyone, it's blatantly Ed and Winry, it's set up that way from the beginning.

Trust me, if you haven't read the manga, but are a fan of the anime, then definitely watch this. I loved the anime, and wasn't too sure I'd be able to get into the manga after finishing it, but boy was I wrong. The plots are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, they go in the exact opposite direction and believe me when I say the manga's storyline is EPIC. I personally cannot wait, I'm literally shitting my pants in anticipation because the manga is just that badass, in fact I'm reading it right now.

I guarantee you that if is in fact true to the manga, and it keeps the same loveable atmosphere that the first series created, then it will be one of the best animes EVER.

I wanna know more about if it will end like the manga.. which hasnt ended yet or have a different ending. Although, with the remaining time they still have another 1.5 years before the manga "has" to end to have it go with the anime, which I dont know what i want. Either the anime to be different so the manga can last alot longer, or have the anime completly as the manga.
