Sorman[2] or Surman[3] (Template:Lang-ar) is a city near the coast in the Az Zawiyah District in northwestern Libya.

Civil War

On 20 June, during the 2011 Libyan civil war, NATO strikes in Surman against what appeared to be civilian homes in a compound belonging to one of Colonel Gaddafi's associates, Khaled K. El-Hamedi, reportedly killed several civilians, including two children and their mother.[4]

On 14 August, the National Liberation Army said it had taken the city in a bloody battle that left 10 rebel fighters dead. If this report were confirmed, it would mean Sorman is under the control of the National Transitional Council and not the Gaddafi government.[5]
